Dallas Gets a Snow Day?
Getting a snow day?!?
There’s still time to be ready for it all.
We know, we know… snow HERE?
It’s like finding a cowboy hat on a polar bear! That winter weather is headed our way in the next couple of days, and while we’re all excited for a possible cuddle-in day, let’s make sure we’re prepared, just in case things get a little too frosty.
Don’t Get Left Out in the Cold
- Fire Up The Generator If you have one, give it a test run, and make sure you’ve got enough fuel to keep it humming. Remember, generators and enclosed spaces don’t mix – keep it outside!
- Stay Toasty If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace, make sure that chimney’s clean – no one wants a chimney fire to add to the excitement. And if you’re relying on space heaters, keep ’em away from anything flammable (that includes those piles of Christmas wrapping paper you haven’t put away yet!).
Keep Those Pipes Flowing
- Wrap It Up Those pipes in your attic and crawl space? They’re not fans of the cold. Show them some love and wrap them up with insulation, a blanket, or anything to keep off the chill.
- Drip, Drip, Drip Let your faucets drip a little, especially the ones against outside walls. It might seem weird, but it’ll help keep pipes from freezing.
Stay Safe and Cozy
- Seal Those Leaks Caulk or weatherstrip around windows and doors to keep that precious heat in and the chilly air out.
- Furnace Check-Up Give your furnace some TLC with an inspection and a fresh filter. A happy furnace means a happier you!
- Safety First Make sure those smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are in tip-top shape with fresh batteries. You know, just in case.
Electrical Safety Matters
- Don’t Overload Outlets We know you want to plug in all the things (space heaters, Christmas lights, that disco ball you inexplicably still have…), but give your outlets a break!
- Downed Power Lines? Nope! If you see a downed power line, stay far, far away, and report it to Oncor right away (1-888-313-4747).
