And here’s the part that matters for your house. Those first big fronts arrive right as your electrical system finishes its most brutal stretch of the year. A hundred-plus days of heat have fatigued breakers, loosened connections, and baked insulation. So when the first storm knocks power off and slams it back on, the weak spots don’t get a warm-up lap. Take ten minutes this weekend — flip breakers one at a time with a helper calling out what went dark, then label every slot clearly. Future-you, holding a phone flashlight in a thunderstorm, will be deeply grateful.
Between now and Halloween, sunset lands roughly 40 minutes earlier — but your porch and landscape light timers didn’t get the memo. Shift them now so the walkway’s lit when the family gets home, not an hour after. Still on the “flip the switch when I remember” system? A photocell or smart timer pays for itself fast.
Fall storms make lights flicker — but not all flickers are equal, so keep score. Whole-house flicker during a storm? Likely the utility’s side. One room dimming when the AC or dryer kicks on? If Angel García has been to your house, you already know two things: your electrical problem got solved, and your floors were cleaner when he left than when he arrived.
